Norma Hill Baker
Norma was born in Greenville, Texas, in 1933, and was raised and educated in Louisiana. She studied Interior Design at Centenary College in Shreveport, and Business, Foreign Language, and Art at Louisiana State University. From 1966 to 1969, she and her family resided in Hong Kong. It was there she developed a love for China’s art and history. She has traveled extensively throughout the world.
Norma became seriously interested in painting in the early 1970’s while living in Indianapolis, IN. She studied painting for eight years under the direction of her dear friend and artist-teacher, the late Sara Todderud. In 1979, Norma and her family moved to Omaha, NE, where she owned and operated a successful business for 20 years. It was not until she sold her business in 1999 that she re-introduced herself to the world of art.
She has original paintings and giclee prints in private collections across the U.S., and is currently under contract to paint for a commercial tile company, headquartered in Omaha, NE, and a gift-tile company headquartered in Miami, FL.
Norma's work was featured in Celebrating Women, a 2006 Calendar sponsored by www.linksinpink.com, a charitable non-profit organization dedicated to supporting individuals and their families facing a catastrophic illness, including breast cancer.
Norma has three children and seven grandchildren. She is a two-time cancer survivor, having had Stage III ovarian cancer in 1987, and a recurrence in the lymph nodes in 1998. In 2002, one of her daughters was diagnosed with breast cancer. Norma and her family have a profound interest in supporting the search for a cancer cure.
Norma enjoys painting in all mediums. Her favorite subjects are people, oriental paintings, still-lifes, and African wildlife. She and her husband spend the fall and winter months in Hilton Head Island, SC, and in Omaha, NE the rest of the year.
